A regional word carrying a global product

Outcome

  • Named and secured in 11 days
Two hands cupped around a glass globe

A word with deep meaning in one market and clean phonetics in every other. We tested it for spelling under dictation across four English accents before recommending it, then secured the .ai the same week.

The brief

The company was building for growers in one market and selling to buyers in many. The founders wanted a name that carried the first audience's language without locking out the second: something that meant something at home and simply sounded right everywhere else. And they wanted to move quickly, because the product was close to launch and the name was the last thing standing between it and the market.

The work

Regional words are where some of the strongest names live, and where some of the costliest mistakes are made. A word that is rich in one language can be awkward or ambiguous in another, and a name that is hard to spell is a name customers never find. So every candidate built from the brief went through meaning and near-meaning checks across language groups before anyone was allowed to fall for one.

The survivor had deep roots in its home market and nothing to trip over anywhere else. Before recommending it, we tested it the way customers would actually meet it: said aloud and written down, under dictation, by speakers of four English accents. A name that comes back spelt the same way four times is a name that will be typed correctly.

A regional word can carry a global product, if it survives being spelt by strangers.

How it closed

The .ai was secured the same week the name was chosen, and the whole engagement, from brief to a name the company owned, took eleven days. The speed came from order rather than shortcuts. Screening ran before the shortlist, not after it, so the name that reached the founders was already one they could have.
